Members of the Mahoning Valley Organizing Collaborative (MVOC) will join Congressman Tim Ryan and leaders of the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation in hosting Mercedes Marquez, HUD Assistant Secretary for Community Planning and Development today at 2:30 p.m.

In the past two years, MVOC has met with top HUD officials half a dozen times including HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan and has pushed for HUD to visit the Valley to better understand the plight of smaller older industrial cities.

“Getting top HUD officials here is an important first step in reshaping the federal government’s strategy around older industrial cities,” said Kirk Noden, Executive Director of MVOC.  “We are excited that HUD will be announcing a new neighborhood stabilization program for the country that also means an initial allocation of $2,144,000 for the Valley to stabilize neighborhoods,” he continued.  The state of Ohio has also received $11,000,000 some of which could potentially come to the Valley.

The press conference will be in front of a rehabilitated green home - 915 Lanterman Avenue, Youngstown, OH - that received federal funding under the NSP 1 program.
