Mahoning Valley officials and MVOC representatives travelled to Washington Wednesday, January 20 to find out why the Valley was left out of millions of NSP 2 dollars.
Though the trip had been planned for quite some time to meet with President Barak Obama's Special Assistant for Urban Affairs, officials shifted their focus to add a special session with HUD officials to question the NSP 2 decision.

MVOC representatives and local officials seek NSP answers in Washington
Just last week, the Mahoning Valley discovered it was left out in the cold in HUD's Neighborhood Stabilization Program.
The Valley's application - a nine-city consortium lauded by the Brookings Institute - was denied, keeping the area's cities shut out of a nearly $1.93 billion grant program. Yesterday, representatives of MVOC along with Mayor Jay Williams, Congressman Tim Ryan and other Valley officials went to Washington seeking answers.

Valley leadership and the Mahoning Valley Organizing Collaborative met to discuss HUD's 1/14/10 NSP II decision to deny the 9 cities of the Mahoning River Corridor any amount of relief for the vacant properties and neighborhood destabilization crises it faces. NSP II allocated $2 billion to cities facing distress as a result of the financial collapse. Representatives from the community, local legislatures, and city officials will meet with the White House on January 20th regarding the NSP II funding.
