What happens after sentencing in federal court?
After Sentencing: Once the judge imposes sentence, defendants may ask the judge to rule on collateral matters. Those being sentenced to federal prison may ask the judge to resolve three matters: Those with sentences of less than 10 years may request time to get their affairs in order and report to prison voluntarily.
How long can feds hold you?
There is no law that says how long a federal hold can remain if state charges are still pending against the person. However, if the state drops the charges and the person remains in jail, the person is considered in federal custody.
How long can you be under investigation for?
Effectively, this means the police must charge (or lay an information before a Magistrates’ Clerk) within six months of the date of the offence (section 127(1) Magistrates’ Courts Act 1980). For all other offences, there is no statutory time limit.

The police can hold you for up to 24 hours before they have to charge you with a crime or release you. They can apply to hold you for up to 36 or 96 hours if you’re suspected of a serious crime, eg murder.

Right to a phone call The person in police custody has the right to one phone call to inform a relative or friend they are in custody. This is known as the nominated person. The police have the right to refuse permission for the phone call and nomination in exceptional circumstances.
Do they turn your phone off when you go to jail?
If your going to county or city jail, they will turn it off and put it with your property that will be returned when released.
Can police take your phone if you record them?
No, not unless your recording is interfering with what they are doing. Police do not have the right to seize cell phones just because the public is recording them. The only times when police may seize cell phones of people who are recording them is when the recording is getting in the way of their duty.
